This is from a story that came up while free writing. I imagined a girl who wandered into an elevator that only goes down, not up. She ended up in a burned basement-nursery, where she stayed from about 13 years old to 24 years old. She made up a man named John to stay with her. John exists as a physical entity in her mind.
