Old School Project

My name is KrepBadgehUxo, alien overlord of the Haxornova people.  In 2210, my people conquered the planet formerly known as Earth.  I must now lead my people into the planet without any opposition from the practically extinct humans and no casualties suffered.  To do this, I need the help of one of them.  Although it seems rather ridiculous that I would seek advice from a mere creature such as a homo sapien, one of their species’ help could be vital in the relocation of my people, so I will do my absolute best to find the most intellectual member of this species to help in my endeavors.
The first person nominated for the position of my advisor is Grace Kim. At 15 years old, she seems too juvenile for this position, but we shall continue anyway.  Her favorite animal other than herself is the dog, with her favorite dog being a pug.  Her preferred diet, like most humans, consists of anything but vegetables.  She spends her leisure time on various and sundry activities.  Some of these are staying in her home or attending religious services.  Her music of choice is the profanity-laced poetic style known as hip-hop.  She appears as the stern, unrelenting type of person whose word is law.
The second nominee is Cody Lathe.  He is 15 years old as well, which puts him in the same juvenile position as Grace Kim.  He is of an average stature for his species, standing at 5 feet and 5 inches in height.  His hair is elongated and the color of rust.  He spends his time playing videogames or playing baseball.  His preferred food is the delicacy known as tuna roll sushi, or rice and raw tuna fish wrapped in seaweed or algae.  He appears as the rugged man who has spent most of his life doing laborious tasks such as extracting milk from bovines or growing crops in the fields.
The third nominee is Alan M. Farmer.  His dream occupation involves espionage, deceit, and secrecy.  It is to be an agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  When it comes to sports, his favorite is American football, with his favorite team being the Patriots of the New England area.  His motion picture of choice is the fourth installment in the Scary Movie series, which is a parody of history’s most renowned horror stories.  The superhero he likes the most is Captain America, the genetically engineered super-soldier of World War II.  His favorite part of his educational system is physical education due to the fact that it is pleasurable.  Though most of his interests are childlike, his physical appearance is anything but childlike, with facial hair starting to appear.
The fourth and final nominee is Raquel Lucio.  She is initially shy and quiet, but is outgoing.  She is not prone to outbursts and is friendly.  Her favorite color is purple.  If she were to have any superhuman feat, it would be flight because it gives the feeling of freedom.  She does not watch much television on a daily basis and the beverage that she prefers the most is coffee.  She appears as the voice that people would listen to.
After analyzing the four nominees, my choice for advisor is Raquel Lucio.  Her appearance leads me to believe that I should listen to what she has to say.  While Alan M. Farmer’s facial hair is convincing, he wishes to be an agent, which involves deceit and espionage.  He may attempt to betray me and lead a revolution.  Cody Lathe’s appearance leads me to believe that he knows nothing but agriculture.  Grace Kim was an option, but I feared that her sternness may lead to unrest.  The inhabitation of the planet formerly known as Earth now lies in the hands and mind of Raquel Lucio.  If she fails, she will be eliminated.

This was from last year.

Embrace

Relax. Clear your mind as you picture a blank room. Now you are ready to fill it with words. Slowly start to read the poem, see your dull room become bright with all the colors of the rainbow, hear the sweet melody it brings. Cautiously glance around for the underlying meaning. Can't find it? Turn on your mental light switch and experience the room. Feel like you are on top of the world, smile back at those who are yet to reach their point of understanding. Don't worry, they will reach you someday. Maybe... But first they will skim and skan for the meaning, looking only for answers. They will squint their eyes, sigh in frustration, and shake their heads. Then they will prepare to repeat these steps without knowing that there is another way. Let me tell you a secret. Paint a picture in your mind and embrace yourself inside the poem. -Briana

Hidden in the Shadows

i am hidden in the shadows of my own fear not bold enough to expand my horizon and ride the roller coaster of life simply because i am afraid i am afraid of that feeling when your heart jumps to your throat and butterflies flit around in your stomach and you look down and calculate the eye widening distance and exhilarating speed and i wonder to myself why i am afraid while others are not but now i realize it is right to be hesitant and think before i act so when the cons outweigh the pros i can laugh at those who rode the coaster and stay hidden in the shadows of my own wit -Briana

Dreams

I dive in, not knowing where to go
I end up in a fantasy world,
But I come up, and soon dive back in
In front of me stands a huge robot

But I hear music playing far off
Is it in my head or somewhere near?
What in the world is it. Is it real?
I finally discover my alarm

Blaring in my ear to wake me up
I roll over and punch the button
It stops and I can dive back in now
I head to a different country

Knowing not where to turn or look
I spin around in circles looking

Storm

I watch the thunder
It's loud and scary
The lightening doesn't help
It flashes so bright

I am scared to death
Of what's to come
Who knows if this is the end
Or only the beginning

Treasure of the South

Piping hot, crispy skin
Greasy like the bottom of a car
My mouth waters as the smell
Pulls me closer and closer

My nose is now a magnet
Attracted to the aroma
I follow it
Like a mouse does the smell of cheese

I reach my destination
The kitchen, where my treasure awaits
It sits on its throne majestically
And I am overcome

Overcome with an emotion
So strong that I cannot
Hold it inside
Even though I try

That feeling, however
Is not one of sadness
Or anger, or even remorse
No.  The emotion is...

Hunger
I take it off of its throne
And devour it
Like a lion devours a gazelle

Piping hot, crispy skin
Greasy like the bottom of a car
My lips are like wax paper
As I finish my fried chicken

Freedom and dirty streets

 Freedom and streets.

What is freedom? Every body seems to have a different interpretation of it. Some people think it is something that you can hold in the palm of your hand and examine like a child, and yet, for some people it is something so unbelievably abstract that no one can have it. The truth is that no one truly knows what freedom is, and that is probably why so many people spend their lives seeking it out; freedom from need, freedom from want. freedom from hunger, freedom from pain, and in all of these things, that want for freedom holds a much darker meaning, for without pain, hunger, death and destruction, how will we know what it is to be free?

Staring out the window at a space that was far too familiar, far to similar to everything else. The black, dirty, saturated asphalt hardly seem special or interesting, yet I was staring at it. It, like every thing else here seemed so plain, so harsh. Maybe, maybe it was because "here" was a place that the sun didn't shine, the only grass we had "here" was yellow and withered, sun-deprived, it echoed the people. The people here are hungry, frail, desperate, and seemingly all insomniacs. All the time, be it day or night, the perpetually feeling of being watched by someone -or something- was everywhere, it hung over the asphalt and withered grass like a miasma. I kicked a rock near my fear and watched apathetically as it fell into the storm drain, the mild feeling of satisfaction that came from manipulation one's environment came over me, and a small smile flashed over my lips, though it faded as I lifted up my head to look at the street ahead of me, sighing. I looked behind me, where am I going? I thought, I had no idea. I knew where I came from, the past isn't scary, it's always the future, the freedom of possibility that's terrifying. I turn my head forward, taking that first step ahead of me, and a feeling of what I can only describe as freedom came over me. Suddenly, everything, fear of the future, a fear of freedom, seemed irrational. I threw back my head, laughing at my self, and walking forward, looking up at the sun, rising over the grey buildings.
